. Introduction

This comparison is going to cover the differences and improvements in the range of the trim levels available from the affordable Sport model to the luxurious Overland model. It will also give an insight into the performance, off-road ability, and technology of both vehicles to help the customer make an informed decision on which model would be best for their needs. The Wrangler has been given a massive update this year to coincide with it entering its fourth generation and now the smaller Wrangler JL. Both models have been given a good modernization in terms of technology, powertrain choices, and driver assistance technology.

The 4Xe is a plug-in hybrid variant of the famous Wrangler off-road vehicle. Jeep says the 4Xe name is applied to its models with electrification and it uses the Wrangler 4Xe to start a life electrifying its portfolio and offers buyers an alternative to pure internal-combustion powered vehicles.

2. Design and Features

The new 4xe comes standard with a cosmetic pedestal between the driver and passenger seats. This is accompanied by a feature from Jeep that is not too handy. Underneath this pedestal, there is always a gap that is open right into the lower level of the car. This is not ideal for keeping gear dry and contained. This dashboard design has eliminated this issue, turning it into a massive storage compartment. The rear area of the cabin is unchanged with plenty of room for gear and nice wide access provided by the side opening rear glass. Customization of LED lights is another standard feature on the 4xe, with their color and intensity being adjustable through the infotainment system. This feature is predominantly toggled with the off-road modes, where owners can select the intensity of the lighting as well as the projected distance. The last feature of standard cosmetic difference is the 4xe badging on the front panels and rear swing gate. This is a trend in automotive drivetrains, where manufacturers who release a different drivetrain model to a pre-existing vehicle find the need to create new logos and badging to signify the change. This often goes unnoticed to people unfamiliar with the car, however, this is definitely not the case here as this was the first of many things that drew my attention to these model differences. 3. Performance and Efficiency

With the new 4xe variant, the vehicle goes from 0-60 mph in a fast and smooth 6 seconds. It provides a quiet, efficient, and fun driving experience. The hybrid powertrain increases performance, while greatly improving efficiency. This is from the addition of a fuel-efficient 2.0L Turbo engine or the available 3.6L Pentastar V6. The 2.0L engine comes with an 8-speed automatic transmission, and the 3.6L engine comes with a 6-speed manual transmission. This vehicle also has a best-in-class towing capability of 3,500 pounds. When it comes to off-roading, the 4xe has an increased level of performance due to the instant availability of torque. The system utilizes Coordinated Hybrid Electric (CHE) prop-shaft power, which increases torque on the wheels. The Silent Torque rating is 181 hp, which is > 3750 RPM. With great electric power comes great fuel economy. The 4xe has a combined 49 MPGe with electric and gasoline or 21 miles per gallon with just gasoline. The MPG is better than the Jeep Wrangler 3.6L V6 with eTorque engine setup, which provides 17 MPG in the city and 23 MPG on the highway. This vehicle is equipped to perform in any terrain or weather condition due to the standard 4Xe part-time 4x4 system. This allows for efficient operation and power off-roading.

4. Conclusion

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe has got the Wrangler in a firm grip for market share when released. Although it would be a costly vehicle that is priced around $49,490 for the Sahara 4xe and $51,370 for the Rubicon 4xe, we still have to consider the tax rebates and potential fuel savings that will be compared to the traditional ICE Wrangler models. The potential prospects are there, and we are excited for the next step in a fully electrified Jeep range.

The Wrangler 4xe has allowed Jeep to add features to the Wrangler lineup that aren't yet offered on non-hybrid models. Monroney documents released on the 4xe indicate that an optional trail cam and rear camera mirror are in the works. Rest assured, the Wrangler 4xe will have a plug-in hybrid roof to help you stay on or off-road longer while enjoying your favorite tunes and keeping things charged.

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe has shown that it offers excellent performance and off-road rewards without giving up the promise of gas-free driving in the city. Even off-road, the pending 4xe should perform perfectly well as the extra weight of its battery pack and electric motors backed up to traditional Wrangler models. At the same time, it will offer a 400 percent increase in torque and a 25 percent increase in crawl ratio, which should equal better wheel control. According to Jeep, the 4xe can climb 30-inch water-fording obstacles, which is a significant depth for an electrified vehicle, and it can ford them at a worthy 5 miles per hour.
